Town Hall Meeting to Discuss the Future of Tourism in Petersburg
Mayor Jensen has called a Town Hall Meeting to hear public comments and concerns on the future of tourism in Petersburg. The meeting will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Assembly Chambers of the Municipal Building located at 12 S. Nordic Drive. The Borough will be accepting testimony, both orally and in writing, focused on tourism and increasing small cruise ship visits to Petersburg. To submit comments in writing, please either email Assembly@petersburgak.gov, snail mail to Clerk Thompson at PO Box 329, Petersburg, AK 99833, or drop them off at the front desk of the Finance/Administration Department at 12 S. Nordic Drive.
A few talking points to consider:
- How has the tourism industry in Petersburg affected you and/or your business in the past?
- How would a small cruise ship schedule with increased visits affect you and/or your business?
- Should the Borough consider partnering with small cruise ship companies who want to build a dock and float for their ships’ use while in port, giving the Borough oversight and use of the facility (if the Borough participates in the cost of the construction) when they are not in port?
- Do you have suggestions for accommodating our tourists?
The community is encouraged to attend and/or provide comments. For more information, please contact the Clerk’s office at 907-772-5405.
