Planning Commission
The Planning Commission advises the Borough Assembly on issues and policies related to planning and land use regulation as well as community development in general.
In most cases the Planning Commission has the ability to make a final decision, pending appeal to the Borough Assembly. The Alaska Statutes allow cities and boroughs to establish Planning Commissions and provide for planning, subdivision, and land use regulation.
Article 7 of the Petersburg Borough Charter establishes a Planning Commission and municipal ordinance defines its duties and scope and identifies the number of members, their qualifications, how vacancies are filled, the frequency of regular meetings, who serves as staff, and general operating procedures.
PLANNING COMMISSION MEETINGS
The Planning Commission regularly meets on the second Tuesday of the month at noon in Assembly Chambers located in the Municipal Building. Planning Commission meetings are open to the public. The public is welcome to present oral or written testimony at the meeting.
