Petersburg Borough Unveils Innovative PRADU Program to Address Housing Needs and Streamline ADU Construction

In response to the housing challenges faced by our community, the Petersburg Borough is pleased to launch the Permit-Ready Accessory Dwelling Unit (PRADU) Program

"This initiative streamlines construction of small houses that can be used as ADU’s creating a win for both homeowners and the community. Property owners benefit from a faster way to build an ADU, while the borough benefits from increased housing options. ADUs and PRADUs: A Flexible Solution for Growing Needs
ADUs, or Accessory Dwelling Units, are smaller dwellings situated on the same property as a single-family home. They offer a versatile solution for homeowners, providing much-needed living space for family members or even generating rental income. By encouraging ADU development, the PRADU Program aims to:

  • Increase Housing Availability: More housing options become available, potentially easing pressure on the rental market and offering more choices for residents.
  • Create More Affordable Options: The streamlined permitting process and pre-approved plans can significantly reduce costs associated with ADU construction, making them a more accessible option for a wider range of residents.
  • Maximize Existing Resources: ADUs utilize existing infrastructure and resources, promoting efficient land use within our community.

  • Faster and Easier Permitting: We offer a selection of four pre-approved ADU models, each with an alternate roof line. The models range in size from 364 to 650 square feet, including a one-bedroom accessible unit.
  • Locally Designed Appeal: Each model was created by one of two talented local architects, Hilde Cain and Linda Millard, ensuring they seamlessly integrate with the unique character of our community.
  • Versatile Functionality: These ADUs function as standalone dwellings or can complement an existing single-family home, offering additional flexibility to suit a property owner’s needs.
